Woodworking students at the NC State Crafts Center now have access to a Wood Studio, which offers a range of classes and workshops for beginners and advanced woodworkers alike. To attend classes, students must be 18 or older, currently enrolled at NC State, and have health insurance.Classes are available in varying session lengths, with longer classes offering access to the studio throughout the semester. Shorter classes do not provide studio access but offer students the option to sign up for additional classes or purchase a membership. Workshops are focused sessions held over several consecutive days that do not include additional studio access.The Crafts Center classes are extracurricular and non-credit, and each class is designed for a specific level of experience. Students are advised not to sign up for intermediate or advanced courses if they do not have the required experience.One of the most popular classes in the Wood Studio is How to Use Woodshop Machines and Handtools, taught by instructors Zach Gregory and Tal Bevacqua. This introductory class is ideal for anyone interested in woodworking who has never worked with larger machines, tools, and processes. Students will gain hands-on experience while constructing a floating top table suitable for use in any residence hall room or at home. The class fee includes wood, hardware, and the use of tools during class.Gregory and Bevacqua bring a wealth of experience to their classes. Gregory, the founder of his own furniture design and manufacturing company, has been designing and making high-quality furniture for over a decade. He has also worked as an instructor and technician in woodworking and furniture design at several universities.Bevacqua is an award-winning woodworker and furniture designer who has been featured in several publications.
